Assistive Technology

With the significant strides in technology over the last couple of decades, Assistive technology devices are now enabling people with a wide range of disabilities to function better in society. If nothing else, these devices will surely help to make this person more productive, independent, and self-confident as they proceed through life with their given disability.

When To Use Assistive Technology

First, always use assistive technology if it enables a person to perform things they normally wouldn't be able to do. Along these same lines, if an assistive technology device can enable a person to participate in an activity or program that would normally not be possible, use the device. Second, if an assistive device can speed-up the process by which someone does something that is generally difficult, employ the device. Finally, if using an assistive device will provide an individual with greater access to information or will promote more social interaction with others, always use the assistive device.
