Collection agencies are organizations hired by individuals or companies owed money by a third party to collect the funds. People who are owed money and do not have any way of recovering their money and businesses who do not have a dedicated collections department are both the most common clients of collection agencies.

What to know when hiring a collection agency

There are a number of collection agencies out there, and they vary greatly in their histories, principles, regulations, and of course, fees. While the strongest temptation may be to simply choose the agency with the lowest fees, this is not always the wisest choice. There are a number of other factors that can affect the value of a collection agency's services.
