Commodity Exchanges

Commodity Exchanges

Commodity exchanges are any type of market where commodities – any article of trade that can be bought and sold – are dealt. Commodity exchanges are most concentrated in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom, but exist all over the world in various countries. Commodity exchanges differ in the goods that are traded there, as well as where they are located, the size of the exchange, and if there are facilities available for relevant operations and services.

Locations of Commodity Exchanges

It is recognized throughout the world that the two countries with the leading commodity exchanges are the United States and the United Kingdom. The Chicago Board of Trade is one of the largest exchanges in the world, and is the largest futures exchange. Chicago is also home to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, while the United States houses the Coffee, Sugar, & Cocoa Exchange in New York, the Kansas City Board of Trade, the Mid America Commodity Exchange, Minneapolis Grain Exchange, New York Cotton Exchange, New York Mercantile Exchange, and Futures & Options of Texas.
