Custom Labels

Custom labels are labels made to the buyer's design and specification. Custom labels can be used for anything, from address labels to product labels. They are available in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and styles, and are a useful item for customizing products or labeling everything from mail to boxes.

Choosing Custom Labels

When choosing custom labels, the first thing to do is determine what they are going to be used for. Will they need to withstand shipping, or exposure to the outdoors? Will they be used on products, and need to adhere to different materials such as glass and plastic? What size will they need to be? The nice thing about custom labels is that they are just that—custom.

You can not only design what they look like, but choose the size, color, and type. Custom labels are available in a wide variety of materials; they can be metallic, raised, magnetic, laminated, or simply a basic sticker-type label. They can be ordered with simple text, such as “Do Not Freeze,” or with something as complicated as a photograph with a slogan, or ingredient information. What you need will determine what type of label to look for.

There are a lot of vendors available for custom labels. Many offer very fast service, printing and sending your labels within a week. Look at a variety of custom label providers, and see what they have to offer as far as different types of labels. Ask to see past products as examples of quality and what the label-maker is capable of. One important thing to remember when ordering custom labels is that many places require you to order in bulk—oftentimes an order of at least 1,000 custom labels is necessary. So, keep in mind that the number of custom labels you order will affect the price.

Also, be certain that you will be able to approve the custom labels before they are sent to you. Something as simple as a spelling error can render your labels useless. A reputable vendor will design the label (or print your design) and let you have final say before it is printed and shipped.

Using Custom Labels

Once you have found your supplier for custom labels, you can use them for nearly anything. Labeling products, boxes, envelopes—anything that needs a label can benefit from customized labels.
