Label Makers

A label maker allows anyone to enter information into the device and it will then type that info out onto an adhesive tag. The tag can then be placed anywhere, file folders, file cabinets and office supplies. Since it is typed, it will be legible and look more professional.

You might recall old hand pressed label makers where you had to select the letter on the dial and pull the trigger. Those are still very useful, however they have come a log way. Label makers are now usually electronic and have a keyboard layout on them where you type in all the information first and then select print. The machine will then print out the info onto the label, usually using a thermal transfer printing system. Label makers can use different fonts and can print different size letters and labels. If you don't have a computer printer that can print mailing labels, a mailing label can be printed as well.

Mailing Labels on a Computer

Besides printing labels to organize files and drawers, mailing labels are also useful in the office. If you have a mass mailing to complete for your organization, handwriting all the addresses can be a daunting task. Not to worry! There are programs on the computer that can make it easy to print hundreds of labels.

You simply enter all the addresses you will be using into a table or import the information from a spreadsheet and put them in the table, which will look like the labels. The labels are then put in the printer and the addresses will print out with one address on each label. You can now peel and stick the address to the envelope.

Other Uses

Labels can also be printed with bar coding, which can be used to quickly identify inventory or quickly match the product with the customer. Labels are also available preprinted in many different colors and styles. It's possible to print pictures and various graphics such as your company logo, which make them a great marketing tool.

There is a way to use labels in your office that fits just about any budget. Hand held label makers and basic electronic ones are in a price range of about $30-$80, with high tech electronic label makers being as much as $500. That being said, as with many products, the more features that are available the more expensive they are.
