Notary Seals

Notary Seals

Every notary public is required to have and use a notary seal. A notary public is a public official appointed by the Secretary of State to administer oaths and affirmations, witness signatures, and perform other duties as permitted by state law. Seals are used to authenticate official documents. A notary public is required to affix a notary seal or stamp to these documents to certify the identity of the person signing the paper.

Information included on a Notary Seal

  • The words "Notary Public” with the name of the state (such as State of California).

  • The name of the notary public.

  • The date of expiration of the notary's commission (four-year period as an active notary).

  • The notary's commission number (identification number assigned to the notary).
