Perforators Continued…

When considering purchasing a perforator, first determine how you plan on using your perforator. Once you know how you're going to use it, start looking into the features that the machine offers. Here are some of the most common features that you should consider when shopping for a perforator.

  • Clamp mechanism – This is the device that holds that paper firmly to the machine. Sometimes cheap perforators have a plastic clamp that doesn't lock into place, therefore the material that your perforator slides while you're using it.
  • Thickness Capacity – How many sheets can your perforator handle at one time? Typical machines can handle up to 25 sheets at a time. If you plan on doing small jobs, the thickness capacity may not be as important.
  • Other Features – You can often save money by purchasing perforators that offer additional features like hole punching and paper scoring. If you have a need for these additional features, it may be worth shelling out a few more dollars.

Perforators in the Office

Once you have purchased a perforator for your office, you'll want to get the greatest use out of the machine. Make sure that you have set aside a place in the office for employees to use the machine. You'll need space on each side to perform the functions of the machine. A separate table is often the best way to ensure that you have the space necessary for proper operation.

You'll also need to clean your machine on a regular basis. The machine punches tiny holes, commonly referred to as chads, every time it is used. These chads fall into a small side container on many machines, but once filled will need to removed for the machine to work properly.
