Police Equipment

Police Equipment

Police equipment includes many types of equipment commonly used by police and public safety officials. Vendors of police equipment may offer clothing, flashlights, self-defense equipment, radio equipment, handcuffs or other restraints, and evidence supplies. Police vehicles are equipped differently than standard cars and so require police equipment; clothing is not only uniform but often features extra-strength seams, extra pockets, and other aspects that also make it unique; even holsters for weapons that are used by law enforcement officials are considered police equipment, since they are not allowed to be used by the general public.

By ordering all their necessities from one or two vendors, police agencies save time and money. Thus, most police equipment is available from vendors who offer almost everything that law enforcement agencies purchase on a regular basis. While many of these items may not be allowed for the general public to use, it is not the responsibility of the vendor to enforce these laws unless there are regulations on the sale of the items themselves, such as firearms. Those who wish to purchase items from police equipment vendors should make sure that what they are purchasing is legal.
