Stand-up Tanning Beds

Stand-up tanning beds are a favorite among frequent tanners because stand-up tanning beds provide the most natural-looking tan. Stand-up tanning beds eliminate the “front-and-back tan” through their method of providing circular lamps to reach all sides of the body. Stand-up tanning beds are also popular tanning bed equipment because they diminish any over-tan that a user will receive in a horizontal tanning bed. An over-tan occurs when certain parts of the body place more pressure on the horizontal tanning bed and as a result receive more light from the lamps. An example of this is the middle back or buttocks.

UV Free Tanning

An alternative to the tanning beds is the air brush tan. This tanning salon equipment is used to provide a UV free tan. The air brush tan requires the customer to remove all clothing and put on a robe or lay under a sheet. A technician then applies the tan, using an air brush and applying the body paint in an even manner. It is important to have someone who is properly trained in airbrush tans to act as the technician.

Certification courses are available through local esthetician and salon programs. The advantage to an airbrush tan is that, when applied properly, it is natural looking and the skin has not been exposed to UV light. The disadvantage to an airbrush tan is price. It can vary from $30 - $50 for a single application. An airbrush tan lasts between two and three weeks.

Miscellaneous Tanning Salon Equipment

In addition to the tanning salon beds and alternative tan applications, is the smaller, but essential tanning salon equipment. Goggles serve an important function in tanning salons because they protect the user's eyes from the bright lamps. Wearing goggles is essential to protect eyes from irreversible damage. An alterative to actual goggles are Wrinkle-Ease, and peepers.

Other tanning accessories include body stickers and tattoos which allow a user to measure how much he is tanning. Pillows are also an important component of tanning salon equipment because they maximize a user's comfort level in a horizontal bed.
